Could someone give me a hand while I crawl up here on top of my soap box? I need to get something off of my chest. Body shaming is body shaming no matter if you are calling someone fat or too skinny or a pig or whatever.
I'm so sick of seeing crap like this:
Yeah, gurl! <High Five!> Real men like CURVES! It sounds like a teenager struggling with self-esteem creates this crap. I've seen both of these posted by adults. Sad but very true story.Let's imagine that I posted THIS on Facebook:
A. I would be burned at the stake.
B. I would look like a dumb ass.
C. It would be way more believable if it were Leonardo DiCaprio holding that sign. We all know his love for a skinny girl.
D. It's the SAME as posting the one at the top and both are stupid.
I'm petite and I can't help that anymore than someone with a bigger frame can help it. Saying, "Eat a cheeseburger!" to a skinny girl is the same as saying, "Looks like someone needs to lay off the cheeseburgers!" to a thicker girl or "You look like a dude." to a Crossfit chick. See where I'm going here?
"Eat more. Eat a cheeseburger. You're SO skinny!" Very original and obvious. Are you going to tell me I have long hair next or that I'm white? Save it, I already know. And what is it with the cheeseburgers? Why does everyone go straight to the cheeseburger? The burger is getting a really bad rap in this body shaming game.
It's safe to say that commenting on someones weight is a bad idea 99% of the time. Saying, "You're SO skinny!" is not a compliment. You know it. I know it. You wouldn't say to someone, "You are SO chunky!" and expect that to go over well. Know why? Because it's a dick thing to say.
We all come in different shapes and sizes (duh) so why don't we all just calm it down a little bit? There are skinny struggles too. Trust me. Ideally I would LOVE to have curves and a full chest and bigger tush. It's not happening. It's probably never gonna happen. You know what? I don't care anymore. I'm healthy and my "dog" of a husband seems to be just fine with this bag of bones he chose to marry.
The point of this post is to point out the obvious: Fat, Tall, Muscley, Skinny, Short, Pear shaped, Apple shaped, Banana shaped, etc. Rock your shape and be proud of your body because we are all beautiful whether our body comes with beautiful soft curves, rock hard muscles or in the shape of a beautiful little banana. We all have feelings so let's dial it down a notch, lay off the e-cards and remember:
